The PlayStation Store Spring sale was starting to go out of fashion, so Sony has worked quickly to freshen up its selection of deals with a line-up full of excellent discounts on titles from Japanese developers. Better yet, this particular list contains a couple of PlayStation 4 games you don't see going cheap too often. The Big in Japan sale is live right now across Europe and runs through until midnight on Friday 8th May 2020. We'll be sure to update this article when the discounts are applied to the US PlayStation Store too.
This sale gives you the perfect opportunity to get into the Yakuza franchise because The Yakuza Remastered Collection has been cut in price to £39.99/$44.99 and Kazuma Kiryu's final entry, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, is down to just £12.99. We do believe that is the cheapest this particular title has ever been. Elsewhere, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy Type-0 HD can be yours for £7.99 in the UK or $9.99 and $10.49 respectively in the US. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy VII comes in slightly cheaper at £6.49/$7.99. The Last Remnant Remastered is half price at £7.99/$9.99, while Oninaki is a more reasonable £22.49/$24.99. Also, we still don't recommend the game, but The Quiet Man can be yours for just £3.95/$4.94. Do what you will with that information.
Has a certain discount caught your eye? There are so many more deals to feast on, so head on over to the PlayStation Blog for the full list. Share your cheap spoils in the comments below.

YES Been waiting for the Quiet Man to come down in price. Overlooked gem from what I understand.
I will finally complete my Yakuza collection with number 6. 😊😊😊😊
FYI this isn't live on the Playstation store online through PC yet for the UK. Not sure if it's a delay there, haven't got a chance to check on my actual Playstation right now.
Edit: Looks like it's maybe just me.
@Grindagger I'm in the UK and I can see all of these deals live right now on my PC.
Oh boy I love me a Big In Japan sale.
@LiamCroft https://ibb.co/Dfhhxwz
Very odd.
@Grindagger You need to be searching for the individual games to see the discounts right now. The PlayStation Blog post I linked has a list of every game on offer with direct links to the deals.
@LiamCroft Ahh ok got you. I guess they haven't updated the main deals page yet then.
@Grindagger I also can't access it, via the ps app, at least
And suddenly a lot of my wishlished games are now on sale. The Big in Japan sales always seems to be the big one for me.
@Rudy_Manchego
Game of the millennium, that's what my cat keeps saying anyway.
Hmmmmmmm final fantasy 8 remastered and fist of the north star for me i think. I may pick up onimusha as well
Danger danger!
When I woke up today I didn't think about suddenly remembering The Quiet Man's existence.
@Feena high voltage!
This Isn't Live Here In The US Yet
Urgh, please help! 😭😱
I'll check it out but I bought Greedfall yesterday so that should tie me over for a while.
Guys, I'm thinking of getting into JRPGs and need some suggestions. Star Ocean, The Last Remnant- worth buying? Also, which Final Fantasy should I start with? Got all of them on my wishlist, but I guess I should start with the older titles not to be spoiled by the graphics of the newer titles.
@ApostateMage
I'm interested in hearing your impressions of Greedfall as I'm still on the fence about this one.
@gollumb82 if you are worried about graphical fidelity, then start 7, 8 and 9. ff9 would be my shout to get you started. Not only is it my favourite game, but its also a love letter to the series that proceeded it. Its a great game. Then i would go ff7 which is one of the greatest games ever made. 8 is probably to least accessible of the 3 initially. Its an amazing game, but some of the systems take getting used to.
After that, id personally recommend final fantasy x remaster over ff 12
@Rob_230
Thanks! Really appreciate your feedback. Actually, I'm thinking or playing the FF7R instead of the original, once it drops in price. Might as well go for FFIX first, then.
@LieutenantFatman Ahead of its time. Eventually, every game will have no spoken dialogue or subtitles explaining what is happening and the likes of Nolan North and Troy Baker are out of a job.
@gollumb82. The last remnant is amazing i got this game.the graphics is really good.the story also.the gameplay is where its?at.its one of the most complex but addictive gameplay i ever play since resonance of fate.get it its a amazing game.word up son
@playstation1995
Thanks man! Resonance of Fate is also on my wishlist
@ApostateMage how is greedfall I have been tempted by that for a few weeks and currently in limbo with a game, played most of games I wanted and just trying to find something to keep me entertained as I have a week off from 3pm today.
Tempted by Yakuza 6 and Kiwami 2 but still haven't started Zero or the first Kiwami yet ! ..also want I Am Setsuna, anyone know how it is ?
Also, I'm looking at Star Ocean Til The End of Time and IAF but heard mixed reviews...worth a punt anyone ?
I'm only dubious because I bought lots in the last Big In Japan and they've only added to the ever growing backlog
@playstation1995 Last Remnant is a great game but I find it so hard ! Regularly get my ass kicked ....word up son
@Daleaf I completed Greedfall the other week, it's a good game - certainly got its flaws, a LOT of backtracking on quests, combats a bit one note. It's very Mass Effect meets the old world. It'd make a great PS Plus title, if you catch my drift. 6/10
@gollumb82 no worries at all. Final fantasy is my favourote series and generally you cant go wrong with any. I think the series lost its way abit after final fantasy 10 (when squaresoft and enix joined together) but 12 is an excellent game in its own right (but i didnt get into it as much as other people). You'll see alot of hate for 13, but i genuinely think in time it will be more fondly remembered - although the battle system didnt require much in the way of tactics (basically hit x to win).
Final fantasy 15 is an enjoyable game but its falls apart under the weight of expectation after such a long wait. Its a beautiful world, but the story is poorly told. Its fun, but i wouldnt necessarily call it a final fantasy game.
Ff7 remake is immense. Playing it now and its one of the top games this generation. The story beats are the same as the original release, but its also very different. Its hugely expanded. I honestly think its worth playing both.
@KingPev cheers m8, think it's on sale atm, so might pick it up. Have been tempted with monster Hunter too never played them, and every time I watch a trailer I'm just not sure if it's an RPG or not lol but heard it's supposed to be really good
@Rob_230
You certainly seem to know a lot about the series. Much appreciated! I loved the FF7R demo so will definitely pick this up when it drops in price.
@Daleaf @gollumb82 I've only put a few hours into it but I like it so far. I can't really say much about the combat as I've started as a pure magic wielder so I'm just spamming spells but you can pause the combat for a tactical battle. It's very much like Dragon Age in that regard. I am loving the fact that most of the voice acting is British and pretty decent.
Got VIII remastered on Switch, also IX. Not really interested in the others. Oninaki possibly but will probably wait for a sale at around 15. Thanks for the article, though.
@KingPev I Am Setsuna wasn't great for me. It is very traditional JRPG. It has a timing mechanic where you can wait longer and fill up for extra power and also combine turns for different attacks. If you like the sound of that that, it's not bad. I do enjoy JRPG usually and the extra mechanics are what enabled me to complete the game (not 100%, didn't want to do extra dungeons /bosses), but the constant snow setting got very tired very quickly. The story wasn't bad but also was a tad predictable, the characters aren't too easy to get attached to, minus Setsuna herself, they aren't particularly interesting. I would probably give the game a 7 of 10. Worth a playthrough, but no more.
@ApostateMage cheers m8, when I watched the trailer it did look good although graphics didn't look brilliant, but as long as the gameplay is good then doesn't matter, will have a think about it, have you played monster Hunter I am on the fence for that? Did play nioh that was good, but got a little to hard, I just want a good single player game to get lost in, and can't seem to find anything atm do any suggestions appreciated.
@ApostateMage
Ok, pulled the trigger on Greedfall. Thanks for useful insight (gotta admit I have also read some reviews online, as well). Looks very promising, warts and all.
@Arugula Was that post patch because I think they patched in the actual dialogue or did you go with zero dialogue?
@Daleaf Yeah, the graphics aren't the best but I really like the style of everything, reminds me of Dishonored in a way. As for Monster Hunter, I've never really been interested in it. I did try the demo but thought it was a bit rubbish to be honest.
@gollumb82 Nice one. Hopefully we'll really enjoy it.
@Arugula Ha yeah, same here - headphones are the way to go with family around!
13 quid for yakuza kiwami 2, sony what are you doing to me??
@Daleaf I know Monster Hunter is generally raved about but I've tried getting into it two or three times but just can't. Basically just chasing monsters and spamming attacks then chase them some more. I find it very difficult to get into a multiplayer party considering its popularity so I got very bored very fast and quit. I do appreciate that it's probably me playing it 'wrong' however. Not for me
@LiamCroft Nice. I’ll take Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 for free.
Nice sale, just picked up remasters of Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Valkyria Chronicles
@KingPev yea that's what I thought it was going to be like, might give it a miss and hope it comes to ps plus or now. Think I might just give greedfall a go instead and hope it's decent enough to keep me occupied. I hate it when you want to play something but just can't seem to find anything as I said played most of the games I want to play, and with all the delays with games, new games are in short supply atm. Bought a few indie games but none have clicked with me so far, just end up playing a few games of FIFA and get bored after an hour or so of that lol
JoJo's Bizzare Adventure: Eyes of Heaven for $9! I know what my GF is getting for her anniversary.
Whether she wants it or not!
For Dead or Alive 6 plus Season pass 1 and 2 it will cost you £131.21 what a f joke really and then if you want to change your hair colour etc you have to pay individually for that as well.
@KingPev. Yes but its a. Great game.im used to playing hard games.but im almost at the end of the the game.the battle system is something else.word up son
@gollumb82 resonance of fate.i had it for my ps3 amazing game.thats extremely hard but fun.word up son
Is this sale available in the US yet? I see all these prices listed but how do they know?? I cant see any sales on ps4
There are plenty of discounts for the Vita! I personally picked Muramasa Rebirth Complete Collection, was waiting too long for it to be discounted...
I picked up FFIX and Star Ocean First Departure R for my PS4
@Akshawr check again, I just bought some games with the sale in the US
Picked up Ace Attourney: Phoenix Wright trilogy to keep me busy for a while, thinking of picking up Danganronpa 1-2 Reload. Anyone has anything to say about it?
@ZeroOverOne well I have only played the first AA and the first Danganronpa. I enjoyed both but imo both have flaws.(both take longer to finish than they should ) But they are similar in that a major part of them are investigation parts followed by a trial. While I would recommend both, it is probably best not to play them at the same time. However if you're gonna just add it to your backlog for later it's ok since the possibility of a lower price is minimal.
I personally liked Danganronpa more because the situation felt more intense
@gollumb82 I'd start with final fantasy X, or original 7. And I suggest the Persona series, you could honestly jump in from Persona 5: The Royal and then play 3 and 4 and if you like it's parent series Shin Megami Tensei.
Yakuza is a very good shout as well. Especially with the whole series being on sale now. Play it in chronological order starting from 0.
Thanks a lot! Persona 5 is on my wishlist I have started Yakuza and loved 0 but was disappointed with Kiwami. I'll still get Kiwami 2 as I've geard the Dragon engine makes a big difference. As for Final Fantasy I'm going to go with X first. I find FF7,8 and 9 too outdated for my liking.
